• A 100-year-old woman and her daughter-in-law were rescued from the rubble of an historic homestead, while her son tragically did not make it.

The Elms Homestead in Kaikoura collapsed following the magnitude 7.5 earthquake at 12.02am, and rescuers spent hours searching for the three residents.

A Fire Service spokesman said one of the woman was able to escape the large home themselves, while the other was rescued. The man did not survive.

Well-known locals Pam and Louis Edgar live at the property with Louis' 100-year-old mother, Margaret.

The women have "lost everything," said a relative.

Relatives are desperately trying to get into Kaikoura which has been cut off by large slips blocking the only access roads.

Helicopters are currently being used to evacuate people from the coastal settlement, which still has no power.

The flashes of light struck the earoplane and it seemed to blow up the engine.
As the earoplane is in the sky there would be people in there. 
They would feel nervous, angry, hungry, bored, annoyed with the noises. I could just emagen the sounds they could hear. The lighting might sound like a rock. They are very scared. I would be scared like a spider inside the plane would be scared. On the plane i would be scared. On the plane i saw flashes. Beside the plane was flashes. The plane hit at the engen.

Scientists have long suspected that the elusive Greenland sharks lived for a long time. It turns out they were right! A new study has revealed that the world’s second largest carnivorous fish may have a lifespan of as long as 400 years. To put it in perspective, that is about twice that of the previously known longest-living vertebrate, the Bowhead whale, which is known to live for up to two centuries.

My writing

i think living for 400 years is amazing. The  greenland shark has lived through both world wars but never seen it happen, it makes me wonder how it has such a long life span & can it benefit human life expectency.Imagine that the fountain of youth, they never get cancer. Sharks have been on our oceans for over 400 million years. Some of the earliest sharks were discovered dating back to the Devonian age. Not only did sharks first appear 400 million yeas ago, they are still here today. They have survived 5 massive planet extinction events. These extinction events killed most life on earth. The last one around 65 million yeas ago killed the dinosaurs. But not sharks. They were here to stay.

Paragraph 1

Earthquakes are usually caused when rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault. This sudden release of energy causes the shock waves that make the ground shake. When two blocks of rock or two plates are rubbing against each other, they stick a little. They don't just slide smoothly; the rocks catch on each other. The rocks are still pushing against each other, but not moving.

Paragraph 2

After a while, the rocks break because of all the pressure that's built up. When the rocks break, the earthquake occurs. During the earthquake and afterward, the plates or blocks of rock start moving, and they continue to move until they get stuck again. The spot underground where the rock breaks is called the focus of the earthquake. The place right above the focus (on top of the ground) is called the epicenter of the earthquake.

Paragraph 3

Earthquake-like shock waves can also be caused by explosions underground. These explosions may be set off to break rock while making tunnels for roads, railroads, subways, or mines. These explosions, however, don't cause very strong shock waves. You may not even feel them. Sometimes seismic waves occur when the roof or walls of a mine collapse. These can sometimes be felt by people near the mine. The largest underground explosions, from tests of nuclear warheads (bombs), can create shock waves very much like large earthquakes. This fact has been exploited as a means to enforce the global nuclear test ban, because no nuclear warhead can be set off on earth without producing such shock waves.

In my family I have 7 siblings 2 brothers and 5 sisters wow thats alot right. I have 5 aunties and uncles that i know of My mum and dad are still alive thank god for that my mums name is veruschka herrick and my dad's name is murray turner. I live with my dad my dad is cool. My aunty kay had 3 children they are all girls she had twins cara and katelynn they are the oldest they live in hamilton then there is gemma she is the youngest she live with her dad.

On my dad's side of the family he has 1 sister and no brothers some aunts  and uncles and cuzzys. All of my dad's side of the family lives in Palmerston north i have 3 cuzzys cara katelynn and gemma. Cara and katelyn are 20 or 21 gemma is 18 on the 27th or 28th. My dad and my aunty kay are in the 40s. My nana and grandad are in there 60s. My dad's side of the family are turners

On my mums side of the family she has 2 or 3 sisters 1 or 2 brothers. I have 5 or more cuzzys on that side Luka, Bow, Nash, Read and Anya. luka is 9 or 10 Bow is 3 or 4 Nash is 0 or 1 Read is 10 or 11 and Anya is 8 or 9. My nana lives in Australia and i don't like her because she spoils 2 of my sisters talicha and kadina and my brother my nic and naphu. My mum goes thro kadinas presents to get out stuff for me because she doesn't get me any thing for me. :( :( my mums side of the family is the herricks.

Why we shouldnt have reflection

We should not have reflection because some people like getting reflecetion. Some people laugh when  they get reflection. Some people think  its cool getting reflection. Some like getting reflection  because we dont get much playtime anyway

Reflection is dumb anyway because it doesnt teach some of as a leason. Some people just sitthere thinking that its funny. So there for we should not have reflectoin.

If we were two have reflection we should have two do work. Because some people sit there doing no work what so ever. So we should have 2 write what we had done 100 times tidily and if it is not done tidiy we should have to do it again until it was tidy.

Introductoin: Hello there im here today to tell you how to make a scrunchie it sounds hard but it is easy.

step 1:For a child size scrunchie cut it 3" x12". Cut the elastic 5 1/2 "  long

For an adult cut it 4" x16". cut elastic 7 long

step 2: Fold in half lengthwise with the patten facing the outside.
Pin or mark where you will be sewing. You will leave 1 1/2" of bottom and top open. So 1 1/2" from the top you will begin sewing lengthwise and stop 1 1/2" before the bottom. Sew about 1/2" in along the edge.

Step 3: Turn the tube right sideout

Step 4: Spread out the ends. Fold one end to meet the other.  Pin them together. Sew together.

Step 5: Push loom together.
Place a safety pin on one side of the elastic and feed it through the tube. When you have both ends of elastic sticking out. Put them together and sew across them to make a circle of elastic inside  the tube.

Step 6: stitch as close to the  edge as possible and stitch the opening close. You could also hand stitch the ends together if you prefer.

Conclotion: Hope you have fun making a scrunchie it sounds hard but it is eazy.

Chuckys full name is charle lee ray. There are 6 kinds of Chucky movies.  There is childs play, childs play 1, childs play 2, childs play 3, Bride of chucky, seed of chucky, curse of chucky.

Why does chucky have stitches?

In the third chucky  he gets chopped up in a fan. In the next one someone finds him and stitches him together ( I belive it was tiffany). In all the other ones he was “remade” in a factory.

Conclusion:

Chucky is scary to some people. I’ve only seen 2 of the chucky movies. You wouldnt wont to meat chucky because he kills people. So stay away.

Intro:  I am a penguin. Penguins main food is fish because they live in the cold if it was cold              you could cuddle them. I love Penguins they are amazing. They are cute and cuddley.

Part 1: There are 17 different of species (kinds)

No- there are 17 different species (kinds). They are mostly black and white, but the little penguin is blue and white. Some have black bands on thier chests and heads. Others have bright crests or ear patches. Peguins would make good pet they would be very friendly as a pet. If you train them they would be even friendlier. Which would make the good pets.

Part 2: why cant penguins fly?

Penguins wingts are to short and stiff for flying. They are called flippers, and are good size and shapes  for pushing the pengiuns along underwater. Penguins fly underwater at about 8 kilometers an hour. Birds are like tuis and those birds can fly. WOW 8 kilometers!!! Penguins arms (wings) are to shortand stiff for flying.   

Part 3: How fast can Penguins walk?

Penguins can walk as fast as people. They are clumsy on land, but they can leap high out of the water onto ice and use there sharp claws and strong bills to pull themselves up rocks. Rockhopper penguins jump from rock to rock, which is how they got their name. WOW Penguins. Penguins can walk as fast as people. They can walk fast for little legs.

Conclotion: Fact 1. Different hairdos- some penguins have crests of feathers on their heads, others look bald. Fact 2. There are 17 different tipys of penguins like Emperor penguin they are 1m high. Little penguin is 35cm high. Yellow-eyed penguin.

A penguins colours help to camouflae (disguise) it from predators and preys. From about, its blacks back blends with dark water below. From below, it white tummy blends with light of the sky.

  

The cold windy day

As I stand there in freezing cold snow it falls over me I’m getting soaked with snow.  The snow is like a cold blanket over my body. There is a house in my eye site. My hands feel the snow falling. My ear’s hear the sound of the wind. As I breath in I smell the fresh air. My mouth taste’s the snow as it drips into my mouth.
